August 2011: Nancy01905

Jill: Welcome to our second episode of RWN's "The Hot Seat"
Daijahv: But our studio is still not ready!
Karima: So we'll be broadcasting live from the Library Gothic in Sunset Valley!

I’m Qui.

Together with Karima,

Daijahv and Jill, we’ll be your hosts.

Qui: Val couldn’t join us today because…well, this is embarrassing…but…she has everyone’s simself in her game but hers. So hopefully, with the next Featured Author’s interview, she would have installed herself. But don’t panic, the four of us have enough awesome to make up for her absence! And for the next fifteen minutes we'll keep you entertained, so grab a comfy chair, a glass of wine or a cup of coffee, and stay tuned to The Hot Seat!

Karima: Nancy was selected as RWN's Featured author for the month of August a few weeks ago, and we asked you, dearest rebels, to post questions to her.
Jill: And boy, did you have a lot to ask…
Daijahv: so without further ado, please give a warm welcome to Nancy!

Jill: Woot Woot
Qui: Yay
Karima: SQUEAL

Qui: Welcome to the Hot Seat
Nancy: Thank you. It’s so great to be here

Qui: What did you do when you realized you were chosen this month as the Featured Rebel?
Nancy: I was in shock and very excited!

Qui: Out of interest, how long have you been a "Sims Addict"? I mean How long have you been a Simmer, and what made you decide to start writing Sims stories?
Nancy: A long time I started playing TS2. I thought it was different that you can create stories and movies from the game.

Karima: Oh, before I steal them, these are for you, from all of us at RWN
Nancy: *bursts into tears* Oh gosh, you are all so nice. I’m crying right now!

Daijahv: Okay, okay, enough with the tears already…It took Val hours to fix our makeup…No, not really, but I don’t like tears.
Qui: Yeah, and we don’t have any tissues

Jill: Right people, let’s get this show on the road, I bet the rebels are eager to get up close and personal with Nancy.
Karima: Yeah, let’s do this!

Over coffee in the great room:

Jill: I love the Sim Movies you make - what made you think of such a unique way to tell a story?
Nancy: I enjoyed watching TV or movies and I thought it will be a cool way to tell mine

Daijahv: Was there anything in particular that inspired you? And what is the nitch that got you into writing?
Nancy: I knew someone on a different forum and he got me hooked making videos. And about writing, I really don't know, I guess from school. I loved English class, we read a lot of plays there and I thought I will try.

Karima: I love the character of Merc Sladen and I think it is so brilliant to use a male Sim for what is traditionally a female Sim's challenge. How did you think of it?
Nancy: I been reading Rhett's challenge in TS3 Forum and I thought I would try it on TS2's Kurt Oliver

Qui: Your characters have the most fun and unique names! Where do you come up with them?
Nancy: Behindthenames.com is where I got my Kindred Souls names from and some for my A Life Of A Vampire story. Sometimes the names pop into my head.

Daijahv: When you are not simming, what's your favorite past time? What do you like to do when you are away from your computer? Are you ever away from it?
Nancy: Reading, playing my Xbox, watching TV, doing latch hooks or spend time with family or friends

Qui: It’s time for an break…And when we return, Nancy and Jill talk more on writing, games and life, over a game of chess.

Karima: Welcome back. If you’ve just joined us now, we are broadcasting live from the Library Gothic in Sunset Valley…And we are about to switch over to one of the many twists and turns in this ol’ library, where Jill and Nancy are battling it out over a game of chess for the "brainiest rebel” title.

Daijahv: So grab a chair and some coffee, wine, or whatever else that takes you to your happy place, and let’s all watch the battle of the brains…

Battle of the Brains with Jill...

Jill: Was there a reason why your challenge story has no pictures, or are you starting a new trend amongst the Sim writers?
Nancy: In 'My Story' I am using the same character as the Ajay Loner movies I am doing. I like to do both; if I am starting in the Sims then I will do pictures. MY other stories A Life Of A Vampire and Kindred Souls I didn't start in the Sims

Jill: You write a lot of stories at the same time, isn't it hard to keep up with them all?
Nancy: If I get a writers block on one I can work on there others.

Jill: What books do you like to read? And do you get inspiration out of them for your own stories?
Nancy: I love to read science fiction, mystery, adventures. Sometimes they do but not much.

Jill: Your stories touch on a wide range of genres from fictional vampires to legacies. What inspires you to change an idea into a story?
Nancy: A Life of A Vampire was based on a role play forum and I did part of a story and I didn't want to go to waste so I made it into a story.

Jill: Do you prefer to write text-only stories, or the ones with the pictures? Why?
Nancy: I find it easier for me to do text only stories. If I am doing a legacy I will take pictures. I hate sorting out the pictures.

Daijahv: We’re back and while Jill and Nancy battled it out over a game of chess, Qui and Karima, found this secret room, and naturally we decided to move the party here, so grab your pack of Marshmallows and join us around the fire pit.

Roasting Marshmallows with the Mods…

Daijahv: Your Sims are so good-looking, (Milda Tanis and her clan are my favs) do you have any of them available for download?
Nancy: Thanks. Yes they are on my Sim page on TS3.

Qui: Your buildings are always fairly large - is that so you can put, for example, all the vamps from Life of a Vampire into one house? Or do you just feel like building and let your imagination take over?
Nancy: I let my imagination take over. I did made one small house called Dream Vacation.

Karima: Your Sims are always so colorful, is this a reflection of your personality? If not, why are they so colorful, is there a reason why?
Nancy: I like the different colors in Sims. It help me making my characters different for my two stories
Karima: From all the characters you've created, who do you identify the most with?
Nancy: Hard to say they have different personality that I can't identify with.

Jill: Also you have stated you would like to be a writer, do you have a preference as to what style you would like to write in? Or will it always be just Sims stories?
Nancy: I do both Sims stories and non Sim stories. For the Ajay Loner movies series I was only planning to do a small one when he played TS3 on his computer, but I thought it will be cool if i did a movie out of his life.

Daijahv: Some of your stories are drama, but some have humor, too. Which do you prefer to write?
Nancy: I try to do both. You need some humor in stories and drama and mystery.

Daijahv: We are still live from the Library Gothic in Sunset Valley and the party has moved outdoors. The girls, along with Nancy, are getting ready for a night of awesome ghost storytelling!

Story time with Daijah and Nancy…

Daijahv: I like the ideas you have come up with, as they are a little futuristic, was that your intention? There are a lot of aliens in your stories, do you write about them because you like them in general, or did you get the idea by using available in-game characters?
Nancy: I blame the show Dr. Who!!! I like playing the aliens in TS2 alot. I love making my males have babies.

Jill: I've never played AJ Loner in my game, and I never realized he was an actual maxis character. Do you plan to write stories for more of the maxis characters? If so, which ones?
Nancy: I have no idea if I will or not. If I do you will find out. I might do it in TS3!

Qui: Are there any other video games that you like to play besides the Sims?
Nancy: Left 4 Dead, Fable 2, and 3, and Monopoly.

Karima: With Pets coming out, will you be including them in your stories in the future? Do you have any real life pets?
Nancy: I probably I will. I love pets. I have two cats, an orange tabby named Mr. T and a black cat with a white spot on his chest named Nova.

Daijahv: In almost all your stories, all your main characters are males, is it easy for you to write from a male POV or could you switch to female thinking too with as much ease?
Nancy: I just do it. I like the challenge of doing a male POV. I also like writing as a female POV as well.

The next morning, after breakfast...

Qui: Sadly, we have come to the end of the show!
Jill: The seat's not hot anymore!
Karima: And we've run out of our fifteen minutes of fame!
Daijahv: But it's been Rebelliously Awesome having Nancy on the show.

Jill: and to show our love for everything that you do at RWN, the Mods have put together a small gift for you. We have for your TS3 game a Rebel Writer's Nirvana T-Shirt, as well as an item from your Simstore wishlist!

Nancy: Thank you, for the gift, and for everything. It was great spending time with you all. You guys are awesome.

In Unison: Aw, group hug

Guys and Girls, keep your eyes peeled, next month, it could be you on The Hot Seat!
